Active Shooter/Violent Intruder incidents in the workplace are on the rise. Businesses have an increased responsibility and legal obligation to be proactive in addressing workplace threats. Move away and exit from the danger as quickly as possible. Create barriers to prevent or slow down a threat getting to you. Be aggressive and committed to your actions. Never give up. What you do matters. Remain out of sight and quiet by hiding behind large objects and silencing your phone.




CALL 911 when you are in a safe area. Inform the 911 operator that this is an active shooter situation. When Law Enforcement arrives, SHOW YOUR HANDS AND FOLLOW COMMANDS.


  • Their priority is to stop the killing.
  • They will not be stopping to treat injured victims.
  • Follow all commands.
  • Make sure your hands are empty and show them.
  • Do not move unless told to do so.
  • When being evacuated, do not stop.
  • You may be asked to help if you can.
  • Once evacuated, you will be identified and questioned. This may take some time.


Three Minutes

Once notified, Law Enforcement will respond to an Active Shooter as quickly as possible. Response time averages about three minutes. Your immediate actions should be focused on maximizing your personal safety until Law Enforcement is able to stop the threat.


Definition of an Active Shooter

An Active Shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.
